Hungary's National Museum since 1802
When Count Ferenc Széchényi offered his rich collection to the nation to establish the National Museum (Magyar Nemzeti Múzeum) nobody suspected that the venue will grow so fast. There were 11884 prints, 1156 manuscripts, 142 books, maps and copperplates in Széchényi collection.
Today, the numbers are unbelievable. The National Museum (Magyar Nemzeti Múzeum) boasts an Archaeological Department with hundreds of thousands object from the earliest period of human history to early modern age. Hungary's greatest historical photographic collection is also in this museum, as well as the nation's largest coin collection. Definitely worthwhile.
