Mikszáth Square: romantic and surrounded by cafes

Mikszáth tér(officially Mikszáth Kálmán tér) is a small square, named for a Hungarian novelist, Kálmán Mikszáth de Kiscsoltó. The monumental statue representing the writer was sculpted by Kocsis András, and placed in the square in 1961.

The square was named to honor Kálmán Mikszáth because the writer lived here, in the house at Mikszáth Kálmán tér 1, till his death in 1910. Today, Mikszáth tér is a favorite meeting point of the locals, who relax with a drink at one of the cafes located around the square. The neighborhood around Mikszáth tér is romantic, and is considered to be one of the most beautiful areas of the city.
