- House of Terror...
Description
The notorious headquarters of the ÁVH secret police, which contain the harrowing House of Terror, is dedicated to preserving the memory of the turbulent era of Hungary's fascist and Stalinist regimes. In the permanent exhibition "Double Occupation," the most attention is paid to the period post-WWII leading up to the 1956 Uprising, with a total of thirty-six rooms on three different levels. Visitors will find the basement area particularly poignant, as it houses reconstructed prison cells, as well as a Perpetrators' Gallery on the staircase with photos of spies, traitors, and torturers. This is a hauntingly captivating experience that should not be missed.
