Description

Heroes’ Square, located in Budapest, is the largest and most symbolic square in the city. It is well-known for the Millenary Monument at its center, a 36-meter-high pillar topped by a golden statue of Archangel Gabriel, who holds the Hungarian crown and a cross. At the base of the column stands Prince Árpád and six other Magyar chieftains who occupied the Carpathian Basin in the late 9th century. Behind the monument are 14 statues of rulers and statesmen ranging from King Stephen to Lajos Kossuth.
