- Erzsébet Lookout Tower
Description
Best view in Budapest from the city's highest hilltop
Atop the highest point in Budapest, the 527-metre high János-hegy hill, the 23m-tall Erzsébet Lookout Tower has the appearance of a four-storey wedding cake. Built in the late 1880s and popular with Habsburg Empress Elizabeth the tower has 101 winding steps, which get crowded at weekends.
Around the base is a photo exhibition of the tower's development and a plaque listing its original benefactors, leading figures of fin-de-siècle Budapest.
