Pest's City Park acts as its "green lung," spanning almost a square kilometre of open space. This area was prominently featured in Hungary's 1000th anniversary celebrations in 1896. Nowadays, museums to the south of XIV Kós Károly sétány offer intellectual attractions, while activities like the zoo and the Széchenyi Baths draw people to the north. Unfortunately, the park's tranquillity has been threatened in recent times, as the government has proposed cutting down trees and introducing new venues that have sparked significant public protest.
