Description

Communist hangover is a treat for today's tourist

One of Budapest's most endearing attractions is the Children's Railway, set up as the Pioneer's Railway by the Communist authorities immediately after the war and still run by kids between ten and 14. Adults drive, while their younger colleagues check tickets.

The 11km journey runs from Széchenyi-hegy hill to Hüvösvölgy, via János-hegy hill, passing the key points of the Buda slopes. On Sundays you'll see children in uniforms training around the main terminus at Hüvösvölgy.
