Description

Located just north of the iconic Danubius Hotel Gellért and its renowned thermal baths, the Pauline order's chapel is situated atop a small hill. Constructed within a cave in 1926, the chapel served as Hungary's Pauline order headquarters until 1951, when the communist regime arrested and imprisoned the priests and sealed off the cave. After the fall of the Iron Curtain, the cave was reopened and reconsecrated in 1992. The chapel is accompanied by a monastery with neo-Gothic turrets that can be seen from Liberty Bridge.
